Overview

The need of the hour is to sensitize everyone to the needs and wants of people from all walks of life, and to encourage diversity and inclusion in all industries. Shining the spotlight on the underrepresented sections of our society, it is imperative to talk about how hard people with disabilities have it in the world; and how hard they have it in the tech space.

It is time for all of us to come together to empower them and ensure that they get equal opportunities to participate, taking only their skills into consideration. Because #OnlySkillsMatter.

With Hack To Enable, our intent is to help and uplift a broad spectrum of people with disabilities - from the people with visual/speech/hearing impairments, to amputees and wheelchair users, and the like.

We invite you to build solutions using a wide array of technological capabilities such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Blockchain, Internet of Things and Cloud, and Voice-based Technology.

Following are sample problem statements to be addressed in the hackathon. Feel free to make submissions relevant to the themes mentioned below.

Themes

E-learning

It is indeed imperative to encourage inclusivity in education—to create a bias- and barrier-free environment and provide equal opportunities to everyone alike.

Design and develop tools with the look and feel of a classroom that disabled people can use to learn remotely and interact with peers and teachers in real-time. Ensure that the tool is easy to use and engage with in a virtual classroom scenario.
Suggest solutions that allocate/offer necessary resources for individuals with disabilities to learn and hone their skills.

Healthcare

Persons with disabilities need additional care and attention, especially when it comes to their health.

Propose and execute innovative technologies that improve medical facilities and experiences for people with disabilities.
Build platforms to make healthcare accessible physically and technologically for individuals with disabilities.

Transformative transportation

The transportation sector is now experiencing a huge paradigm shift with new and advanced modes of public transportation that are replacing the existing ones. Travel technology has proven to add value to travellers.

Propose moonshot ideas and prototypes that enable smart transportation technologies for disabled people with adept navigation and safety systems.

Wearables

Smart wearables are the present and the future of technology.

Identify everyday accessories (such as wallets, glasses, belts, watches, and the like) that can be converted into wearable technology, in order to aid people with disabilities.
Use AR/VR technology to develop solutions to make everyday lives easier for individuals with disabilities.
