Overview

What will you do if database queries were free — free from the hassle of thinking about how to structure data, free from the worry about lag and downtime, and free from the engineering effort of server management?

Introducing Slash GraphQL, Dgraph’s fully managed backend service. To create a flexible, production-ready backend database, all you have to do is define a schema in GraphQL, and our container will handle the rest. Simply spin up an instance, and your database will scale and adapt on the fly. No tables, no database management — just GraphQL. It’s that simple.

Dgraph Labs is hosting the ’ Hack and Slash GraphQL’ hackathon to showcase the power of Slash GraphQL. The aim is to show what apps can be made when frontend developers no longer need to think about database management. For the contest, you can create web apps, plugins, bots for popular systems such as Slack or Facebook, and a lot more - but no clones of existing systems.

Dgraph, the database powering Slash GraphQL, has a number of powerful graph features, and the hackathon judges will reward innovative use of data when giving out points. Additional points will be awarded for apps that are complete, have a clean user interface, and reach the levels of the functionality you’d expect from a completed ‘Minimum Viable Product’.
