FAQs

  1. Where can I find the schedule and location of the events? You can find it on our website at uottahack.com!

  2. Do I need to pay anything to register for uOttaHack? Nope! Attending the hackathon is free, including any meals during the hackathon. We will also provide as much hype as you can possibly imagine.

  3. What kinds of qualifications do I need to participate in uOttaHack? The only qualification you need to attend uOttaHack is a passion for programming and an openness to meet new people! No other knowledge is necessary to participate. Obviously, if you have experience with certain languages or tools, then it's a plus, but it's in no way mandatory.

  4. How do I submit my hack? Once your hack is completed, you and your team will submit it using HackerEarth, along with details about the project and your team.

  5. Since there is no specific technology mentioned, are there any restrictions on using number of pre-built libraries? Nope! In keeping with the spirit of hackathons, there is no restriction to use any language, technology stack, or libraries. You can implement your hack using any libraries, languages, or APIs you like.

  6. Do I need to give a demo for the product that I have built? We strongly encourage all hackers (although it's not mandatory) to demo their creation once hacking finishes on Sunday! Judging will be done science-fair style; that is, each team will be assigned a table, and judges will come to your table, where you can demonstrate your hack to them in a short presentation. Demoing your hack not only makes you eligible to win some sweet prizes and attracts the attention of our sponsors, but it's also a great way to build confidence and to bond with your team!

  7. Sounds great, but what do I win? We started uOttaHack to empower students in creating innovative, fun, and awesome projects, without the stress of a regular semester's weekend. The biggest reward you will get are the friends you make that last a lifetime, and an experience you won't forget. But, with that said - you'll have the chance to demo to our stellar panel of judges, and the top teams will be rewarded with some sweet prizes! There will also be smaller prizes for specific categories, as well as prizes given out by our sponsors!

  8. How many participants can a team contain? Teams can contain from 1 to 4 participants.

  9. Who will own the IP(Intellectual Property) Rights to the product that I have built? The developer/developers of the web/mobile application will have all rights and own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in public domain (open source) so that it can be evaluated by the judges.
