Case Study

About Siemens

Siemens India is the country’s leading provider of technological solutions. Naturally, maintaining the best technical team is key to the success of the company. They hire extremely qualified java developers and machine-learning engineers for several of their projects.

With a high volume of roles to fill every year, the company’s traditional recruitment method soon became obsolete and unscalable. This was primarily due to a manual screening process and a high dependency on manpower.

Problems

Manual Screening Process

The company previously conducted extensive hiring drives over two full days at their corporate office. On average, these drives had over 400 candidates participating. The first round of screening included coding assessments – created from scratch and evaluated by a team of 7-8 engineering managers. The overall process took several hours to complete. Hiring managers were only able to evaluate 10 candidates in one hour, owing to the manual process.

Higher Manpower Dependency

Since these extensive drives took place onsite, the company needed to manage end-to-end logistics. This meant arranging food and transport facilities, deploying engineers for screening and invigilation duties, and assigning computer lab technicians. This added up to 25 people required to oversee the entire operation. The level of dependency became very challenging and ultimately contributed to higher human resource costs.

Delayed Time-to-Hire

The time taken to prepare test questions, coupled with a manual screening process, caused significant delays in hiring decisions. Additionally, the lack of sufficient performance data also carried the risk of inaccuracies and inconsistencies in evaluations – ultimately impacting hiring decisions and delaying the final offer roll-out.

"If we did not have HackerEarth for our developer assessments, the process would be an absolute nightmare."

What solutions did HackerEarth provide?

Automated Screening

With HackerEarth Assessments, Siemens could create and launch online tests in just five minutes using a simple link. The automated process eliminated all manual efforts when it came to test creation and evaluations. Engineering managers could now screen hundreds of candidates in just a few hours.

Reduced Manpower Dependency

Candidates could access HackerEarth assessments remotely. Thanks to the platform’s robust proctoring settings, the system ensured that candidates taking the test did not cheat. This way, Siemens could conduct their entire screening activity remotely with confidence. There was no need for onsite drives. This eased their manpower dependency and associated costs.

Accelerated Time-to-Hire

Creating a test was easy for hiring managers. With access to HackerEarth’s extensive library of questions, a test could be created in just a few minutes. Additionally, the platform automatically ranks candidates based on detailed performance data. Hiring managers could now identify the most skilled candidates at just a glance. This helped them make better hiring decisions, and roll out offers quickly.

Manual Recruiter Tasks Now Automated

With HackerEarth, Recruiters did not have to waste any more time on setting up calendar invites between engineers and candidates for dozens of screening rounds. They had to simply upload a list of candidate emails, and HackerEarth would automatically invite each of them to take the assessment. This saved recruiters plenty of time and allowed them more bandwidth to perform more important recruiting functions. HackerEarth’s product also followed up with candidates and sent them reminders to take the assessments (if they had not done so within a specific time period).

What did Siemens like best about HackerEarth?

Data-driven Reports

HackerEarth’s automated reports had everything hiring managers needed to know about a candidate’s competency, strengths, and weaknesses. This contributed to data-driven evaluations that were accurate, fair, and consistent.

Cloning Tests

HackerEarth’s platform gave hiring managers the flexibility to clone previous assessments. This helped them eliminate redundancies in creating tests for similar roles and skill sets recruited in the past. They could quickly duplicate, edit, or modify assessments for different use cases. They found it incredibly easy to use, making the test creation process extremely quick.

Customer Support

Siemens was very happy with HackerEarth’s swift customer support response. Resolution tickets were resolved within a few hours, ensuring that Siemens had all the help they needed at every stage of their screening process.
