Rules

  1. Location: This is an online, virtual hackathon. You can participate from any location in the world.
  2. Dates:
    • The hackathon idea phase starts on Jan 10, 2020 8:00 AM PT (San Francisco time) and end on Jan 31, 2020 5:59 PM PT (San Francisco time).
    • For those selected for the hackathon implementation, the phase starts on Feb 7, 2020 8:00 AM PT (San Francisco time) and end on March 2nd, 2020 00:55 AM PT (San Francisco time).
  3. Teams:
    • You can participate either as an individual or as part of a team. You can have at most 4 members in your team.
    • You can either invite your friends to form a team or you can request other teams to add you as a member.
  4. Development:
    • Once the hackathon starts, you will get an option to submit your hack.
    • Your hack must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration.
    • You can use Mattermost developer documentation for tips on setting up your developer environment.
    • You can use any programming language to develop the bot.
    • You may, and are encouraged, to use open source libraries and other freely available systems / services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds etc.
  5. There are 3 themes of the hackathon, you may submit a hack that is in one of these or a combination of these themes. Please refer to the submission guidelines when building the bot.
  6. Submissions: To submit your project, please take these two steps. Note that you can submit as many projects as you want. Each will be evaluated as an individual submission.
    • Submit your bot to this Mattermost GitHub repository as a pull request. Mattermost will use the GitHub repository entry to review the submission. See the repository for submission guidelines.
    • Submit a link to the pull request on HackerEarth to count as a hackathon participant.
    • (Encouraged but not mandatory) Tweet your participation with hashtag #hackmattermost. Mattermost will retweet you back!
  7. Top 3 main prize winners will need to submit a W-9 (US based prize winners) or W-8BEN (for non-US based prize winners); an invoice or other equivalent paperwork to AP[at]mattermost.com claiming the prize with proper authorization; completed Mattermost contributor license agreement; and banking information via this Google form. If you are prize winner based in the US, we are required by the IRS to issue a 1099 form for money or prizes earned greater than $600 in any given calendar year.
  8. The intellectual property of your code belongs to your team. However, the developer/developers of the top 3 solutions may be welcomed to transfer the repository (if one exists) under the https://github.com/mattermost organization for long-term maintenance and promotion to the broader community. If so, we’ll take steps to ensure you are credited for your work and recognized as the original creator. For an example project transferred to Mattermost, see https://github.com/mattermost/desktop. During this process, the developer/developers would also sign a Mattermost contributor license agreement (CLA).
  9. By participating in the hackathon, you agree to the terms and conditions of HackerEarth.
